RESIDENCY
The Zen Center has 3 rooms available for rent. Living communally in the Zen Center is a great way to practice on a daily basis. We share meals, practice Zen together, and enjoy spending time with the community (and cats!) in our home. Residents also get free admission to the monthly retreats.
INDIANAPOLIS ZEN CENTER
Offering the practice of Zen Buddhism in central Indiana since 1991
Our programs include retreats with authentic teachers and weekly practice sessions. The Indianapolis Zen Center is a member of the Kwan Um School of Zen, an international organization founded by Zen Master Seung Sahn, the first Korean Zen Master to live and teach in the West.

BUDDHA, DHARMA, SANGHA
Join us for daily practice, retreats, and other gatherings
The Indianapolis Zen Center offers several ways for people to begin Zen practice. Every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm a dharma teacher provides a brief orientation for those who are new to sitting meditation. There is no charge and no appointment is necessary. Please arrive a little early so that you can get settled. Those with some practice experience are always welcome to join our regular schedule at the Indianapolis Zen Center without formal orientation and free of charge. We also host monthly one-and-two day retreats.

WHAT IS ZEN?
What are you? If you keep this question you are already practicing Zen. If you lose this question, you lose your life. All the forms used in Zen practice are training in keeping this great question alive. When you bow, who is bowing? When you sit, what is it that is sitting? If you persist in this kind of practice your mind becomes clear and can open up to its original luminous nature. When that happens you fall deeply in love with this world. Then, moment to moment, you can see how to help all beings. That is your original job. That is Zen mind. If you want to bring forth that mind, you are welcome to practice in the tradition of Shakyamuni Buddha, of Boddhidharma, and of all our ancestors in China and Korea and America who have brought Zen Buddhism to our door.

Someone once asked me, “Soen Sa Nim, do you believe in God?” I said, “Of course!” The person was very shocked. “You are a Zen teacher. How can you possibly believe in God?” “I believe my eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind—why not believe everything? I believe this green tree, the blue sky, a barking dog, the smell of incense—why not believe in Buddha or God?” So, you can believe in everything. Believing in everything means realizing that you and everything are never separate.
